DIGITAL X SUSTAIN is a two-day, hands-on event on the sustainability of our digital and physical worlds.
While the digital transition is seen as a motor to enable green transitions, this perspective also has some critics. Researchers and civil society organizations have been drawing attention to potential discrepancies between digital and sustainability goals. They are notably highlighting questions around public participation, social impacts, and the environmental impact of digitalization, including electricity consumption, water consumption, extraction of rare materials, and e-waste, all of which require public discourse and policy reforms.
While adoption and criticism occur in parallel, proponents and opponents rarely meet in dialogue. This limits creative innovations that can be born out of constructive disagreements. We need to bring diverse perspectives and stakeholders from different sectors into dialogue, and to work together toward more sustainable futures.
To facilitate such dialogue, the MImPG consortium is organizing a two-day, hands-on event on the sustainability of our digital and physical worlds. The event will be held at USquare in Brussels on 17–18 March 2027.
Everyone is welcome! We invite practitioners from the public, private, and associative sectors, as well as researchers, artists, designers, and residents who work on projects that advance or question the sustainability of the internet and digital technologies, to present their work and ideas in traditional and innovative formats.
